Changes Coming to the ACT
In response to the recent changes to the SAT, the ACT has announced major changes, beginning with the Spring 2025 testing schedule:
• Overall test shortened from 3 hours to 2 hours but still given as a paper and pencil test, not on-line.
• Reading/English sections will have 44 fewer questions.
• Science section will be OPTIONAL.
• Math section will have 15 fewer questions.
• Composite score will still be on a 1-36 scale with only the Reading, English, and Math sections resulting in the Composite score.
• These changes will result in students having approximately 27% more time per question.
For years, students have been reluctant to take the ACT because of the pressure of answering more questions in less time than the SAT. With these changes, I highly recommend taking the ACT as it is an easier test to study for and easier to bring up your score upon retaking it.
