Phony Honors Do Not Help Students Get Admitted

Many families receive official-looking envelopes with documents congratulating students with an invitation to join different honors societies and organizations. Don’t be fooled! These are companies looking to collect fees ranging from $100-$400 and in exchange, send a student a certificate of acceptance into their organization. They will also invite students to buy their leather-bound book containing the names of all the other students who joined, which costs another $150.

Colleges and universities know all about this and totally disregard these “phony honors”. So should you.
