The price of new printed textbooks is up 82% since 2002. The average annual cost of textbooks per student is now around $1200. Here’s what you can do to cut these costs:

1. RENT – Check out www.chegg.com. By renting you can save up to 50%.
2. START COMPARISON SHOPPING EARLY – Check out all your options, including electronic versions, renting, purchasing used, or buying online.
3. OPEN-SOURCE – See if the required textbooks are available as open source materials, which are free to students online and are very inexpensive to download.
4. USE CAMPUS LIBRARY EDITIONS – Professors make them available each semester.
5. USE OLDER EDITION OF TEXTBOOK – Previous editions are much less expensive and usually are exactly the same as the newest edition with minor variations.
