Summer Internships Offer an Edge and Money Too

Internships are becoming a pre-requisite for getting a job after graduating from college. Students should aim for at least three internships or similar experiences during their college careers. The Center on Education and the Workforce found that 63% of college graduates who completed a paid internship found fulltime employment within six months of graduation. Only 35% of students without a paid internship found employment within six months of graduation. What can you do to get the most from internship opportunities once you're in college?

• Target Specific Companies & Industries
• Search for positions on-line.
• Leverage college networks.
• Look at opportunities close to campus.
• Apply early and fill out at least 10-20 applications during February and March.

Internships in politics, entertainment and journalism are often unpaid, including non-profit organizations. Paid internships are more common in technology and finance, with pay averaging $15-19 per hour. Don't miss out on these opportunities which will give you a huge advantage over your employment competition.
